After labor day is usually the time of year, when many Kansans start to re-seed their lawns. I’ve been getting many calls about which grass variety to choose. So I thought I’d put together some resources to help you. I’ve attached 2 Adobe PDF documents that list the recommended varieties from 2008 and 2010. I’m posting the 2008 version because, some of the varieties may still be available and some of the varieties in the 2010 version may not be available in your area, yet. And while the newer varieties might perform better than the ones listed on the 2008 document, they are probably very similar.
The 2010 version has been updated to also include the sponsor of the grass in the NTEP trial and whether or not the variety is available in 2010. The sponsor and availablity information came from the NTEP website and I did not verify the availability of these grasses personally. If any of you are selling these varities this year, and I’ve marked them as not available…post a comment below, and I’ll update it.
You can also take a look at the variety trial information over at the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program website. They have variety trials for all the grasses, tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, Bermudagrass, etc.
