Arctic Field Day

If  you’ve ever been to the KSU turf field day in the summer, you know that it is always hot and humid.  Today the KSU Horticulture, Forestry, and Recreation Resources Dept had a field tour at Rocky Ford so that the non-turf faculty and students could learn about all the turf research.  It was chilly, but I guess I’d take this (50 and windy) over 100 degrees.

Dale Bremer and Kira Arnold explain some of the weather-sensing equipment and how it is used in the water-use studies.

MS student Zane Raudenbush talks about one of his weed management products, where he is examining different products and different timings.

Steve Keeley discusses a project examining the potential for some organic weed control methods (corn gluten, hand weeding, and a vinegar-type product) in comparison with some conventional methods.

PhD student Kenton Peterson discusses more weather-sensing equipment.

Cody Domenghini, PhD student, talks about a study comparing water use of tall fescue, buffalograss, ajuga, and vinca.

A bundled-up Jack Fry talks about his favorite topic, zoysiagrass.

I was bundled up, too, with knit hat and gloves.  Brr!
